We all were new to geocaching at one point and many of us got excited by our first trackable find... this was quickly changed to confusion in some cases as to how to log it, what to do with it, and even what are the trackable missions?
Don't worry, this can easily be explained in a few basic steps.
1. Is it activated? - If it is not, this may be a prize or gift for a first to find (FTF) or other achievement. It becomes yours if you activate it. If it is already active, please continue to move it along with its mission.
2. Log it - This way it shows that the trackable was picked up and moved. Forgetting to log leaves it "MIA" and this can cause them to get lost or forgotten.
3. Check the info - Some trackable items have specific missions (seeking caches, locations or special pictures in the logs). Check the trackable page to find out and see if you can help it on the mission.
4. Place it - When you get a chance, please move it to a new cache and leave it for the next person to find. It doesn't have to be the same day, but it should be kept moving as soon as possible.
5. Don't forget to log the drop! - Like step 2, please don't forget to log that it has been placed. This lets other cachers know it is ready to be found and go on its way.
